Star Patterned Midi Dress Two Ways - plus Link Up

Star patterned midi shirt dress by Hush worn by Gail Hanlon from over 50s style blog Is This Mutton?
Hope you all had a good weekend. I was expecting long queues at the garden centre, as this was their first weekend open for several weeks, but I was pleasantly surprised. I spent all of Sunday sorting out containers and planting, but still have quite a bit left to do.  I'd actually painted my nails but gardening was not a great idea and I had to remove it the next day!

Shirt dresses have never been a thing for me: to be honest I didn't think they would suit me, but this Sophie midi dress from Hush has changed my mind.

It has good shaping around the waist, with a tie belt, and the style and print are relaxed enough to make it a day wear dress.

One of the alternatives this summer is the continuation of the big baggy dress,  but I definitely prefer this more streamlined shape. I've dressed it up with pink accessories but you can also wear it unadorned with trainers - below.

It's a dress that potentially offers a lot of wear: the dark colour and long sleeves mean it could be styled with a long cardigan for winter.

I'm wearing a UK 10 (US 6) which fits fine around the waist but I notice is pulling a little across the bust, and there's gaping between the buttons. I'll have to put in a couple of press stud fastenings as I always hate being "a flasher."

The dress is still available in sizes 6, 8 and 16.

The pink bag was a recent low-cost purchase from Amazon and the sandals are several years old but perennial favourites.

The Covid holiday situation seems to be changing fast.  Last year I booked our Greek summer holiday for this coming July, many months in advance as normal, never thinking that the world would come to a halt.  BA cancelled the flight a few weeks ago but the hotel booking still stands.  I had not been expecting that we might be able to go and was fully expecting to move the holiday to next year. However I read yesterday that Greece will probably allow visitors quite soon with hotels due to open on July 1. At the moment we still have the quarantine situation to contend with, but this may be short lived.

If flights are available and UK visitors are able to take "non-essential" travel, with no quarantine after a holiday, we will either have to go to Skiathos or lose the money. I will need to find a flight of course, which is not easy as most operators don't have any listed right now. Stay tooned! Did any of you book an (early-ish) summer holiday, and how likely do you think it is that you will go?

  1. I love the navy and pink together. Lovely look. I think we will not be going abroad this year. It would be nice to think we could go somewhere in Britain later but i don't know how that will pan out.
