Going Goblin Mode

 & #WowOnWednesday

Dear friends.  Have you ever been in Goblin Mode? This phrase is apparently one of the most used this year, according to Oxford University Press. Elon Musk has admitted to times when he "went Goblin Mode."

If you're in Goblin Mode, you have "rejected societal expectations" and are living in an "unkempt, hedonistic manner without concern for one’s self-image."

Now if you're from my vintage, there are four types of goblin.

One was the baddy in folklore. Goblins supposedly live in grottoes but attach themselves to households, where they are believed to bang upon pots and pans, snatch nightclothes off the bodies of sleeping people, move furniture at night, and flee after rapping on walls and doors.

Goblin also refers to a a vacuum cleaner manufacturer, and another brand called Goblin that makes tinned steak and kidney puddings, still available apparently. Plus who could forget the Goblin Teasmade?! (Why do I remember such trivia?!).

Goblins v Elves

Give me goblins any day.

Elves! Always beavering away and being helpful, or, as portrayed in the Lord of the Rings, ambitious over- achievers low on empathy.

I'm probably biased in favour of goblins thanks to David Bowie's portrayal of the Goblin King in Labyrinth. Was there ever a more gorgeous goblin?

Let's just say that watching Elf, which I know you probably love, is a form of slow torture for me.  I just find the idea of a giant elf in the form of Will Farrell very creepy.  Anyone else?!

Let's Exit Goblin Mode and Go Glam

The Kettlewell colour club 12 Days of Colour gave me plenty of opportunity to dress up. The prompt Pink and/or Sparkle gave me another chance to whip out the fabulous Ghost skirt I bought pre-loved from a friend. I'm also wearing the necklace that Mr M gave me for my birthday.  The light peach top and flamingo pink short tie wrap are both from Kettlewell.  Gold shoes also from Mr M, from John Lewis.

For the challenge Greens, always happy to wear the gorgeous array of greens available to those coded spring. All thre seasons have lovely shades of green:  autumn have the olives and junipers, summers and winters the blue spruces and icy shades.

I'm wearing a very old and much loved skirt from Boden with navy lurex tights, velvet green boots, an apple top and fresh green short tie wrap from Kettlewell.

I had to be creative with the prompt "Favourite prints" because I don't have any Kettlewell prints except in scarves.  I used to wear a fair bit of polka dots and occasionally stripes, but I tend to find prints overwhelming.  However, I do have a few Kettlewell scarves.  This is the Sia silk scarf in aqua print, worn with the Pippa top in jade and short cascade in apricot.

Had you heard of Goblin Mode, and if so, do you relate to it  (or have any family members who do....). And please defend elves, and Elf the film, if you love it! Love to hear your views in the comments.

  1. Such lovely use of colour. I really like the pink and green. It has an effect on the mood and just showcases personality so well. You are not alone I don’t like that Elf movie either. Have a great holiday season and weekend.
