Dear friends. Welcome to another of my my occasional "new book arrivals" posts. This time I've added TV watches.
My latest books arrivals, starting with this psychological thriller by Louise Candlish, coming out in November. I loved it. Via NetGalley.
The second book for me by acclaimed 19th century Greek writer, Alexandros Papadiamantis (bought). This is a collection of short stories.
I've read everything by Adele Parks, and devoured this new one (bought). My review will be published on 18 Sept.
Finally I've got a contingency Jane Austen ready for one of my regular book famines. This time it's Emma. Have you read it?
What I've Been Watching
Thumbs Up
Dalliance, Paramount
This Aussie comedic drama is pure gold, although hubs is not very keen. It focuses on Billy and Rose and their group of friends, who think they have life all figured out in their 60s, but they are forced to rethink all that when it is not what they expected.
The Bombing of Pan Am 103, Prime
Thumbs Down
Vigil series 3, BBC IPlayer
It's sadly another yawn fest, which baffles me seeing as it features a) Svalbard, and b) the watchable Rose Leslie. I find Suranne Jones' character a bit blah. She doesn't have much to work with. Somehow it's just very slow and uninspiring.
Ransom Canyon, Netflix
Hubs liked, I didn't. I saw it described as similar to Yellowstone. No way! This has a dull plot and characters with no redeeming qualities. The three leading women looked too alike to me. They all had long dark hair, too much makeup and no sense of humour.
My Brilliant Career, Netflix
This Australian six parter started off very well. It seemed to be fresh and sassy, albeit with the usual device these days of contemporary pop music at every juncture. But it deteriorated and became too much like a slush pile romance. Shame.
