Fab experience with The-Bias-Cut

Imagine spending the day with two blogger friends, a professional make-up artist and photographer, and a new and vibrant fashion brand with a rail of divine clothes. Yes, it was heaven, and that's what I did recently courtesy of the Bias Cut.

The Bias Cut was founded by Jacynth Bassett who spotted a gap in clothes for older women. It's hard to find stylish and well-made clothes that have a fashionable edge. She personally curates the finds that make it to her site, and she has a great eye.  The online store has some fantastic midi length skirts in the new shape and this season's must-have, side stripe trousers. The quality is second to none: the skirts for example are in the most sumptuous fabrics.

Jacynth's idea for the fashion day with me,  Laurie from Vanity And Me and Hilda from Over the Hilda, was that we would choose pieces from the collection and style them as we would wear them ourselves.

The pink Bowie jumper (sweater) in cashmere, by Orwell + Austen, was a no-brainer for me -a lifelong Bowie fan. It also comes in navy and red. I added the Saria lace midi skirt by Baum Und Pferdgarten,  plus my own silver boots and belt, and magenta tights. Reader, I loved the jumper so much I have bought it. Image showing Is This Mutton fashion blogger Gail Hanlon in green Narelle dress from the Bias Cut dot com
I love a bit of green as you know, so the Narelle dress by Nathalie Vleeschouer was a perfect choice! It's in a lovely fabric so it is very figure flattering, and has a clever belt which looks like a hair band, that you slip over your head. I had to borrow a pair of shoes from Jacynth - it's been many years since I've worn such high heels! But they felt very glamorous.  I am holding the Black 'Pony' With Gold Foil Wristlet Clutch/Tech case, and wearing two Gembud Dark Semi Precious Stone 9kt Gold Rings.

Staying with green, I loved the green Sophie velvet jacket by Fabienne Chapot which I paired with the Jaice navy and green side stripe trousers by Baum Und Pferdgarten. The jacket has a cute brooch which looked great with the gold stars on the Mimi White Star Embroidered T-Shirt. The Dahlia Off-White Leather Tote 2-in-1 Handbag is made in Britain.  Gold boots my own.
Image showing an over 40s woman in green velvet jacket and navy trousers with a green side stripeTo tell the truth, I was a bit nervous at the idea of having my makeup done and my photos taken by a professional photographer. I was afraid I would be too wooden or amateur in my posing, and the clothes I'd chosen might make me look fat. But Joyce Ademasa, the MUA, and Katie Frost, the photographer,  were so warm and kind that any nerves faded away. And I was able to go one size down in the dress, which was a result. Paying a little more for quality pays dividends in that clothes are well cut which helps to hide any figure imperfections.Image showing a professional makeup artist with over 40 blogger Gail Hanlon from Is This MuttonJoyce used a few false eye lashes at the corner of my eyes, which made a huge difference, and applied eyeliner all the way round, which I normally never do - but certainly gave my eyes more impact.Image showing three over 40 fashion bloggers in clothes by The Bias Cut dot comIt was great to meet Laurie and Hilda. They're part of the 5 Over 50 collective with me - we have a monthly style challenge (next one is out on Monday 5th Nov) - and although we've emailed and chatted online, we have never met before. Laurie was heading off to Newcastle after the shoot to collect a new pup. Hilda was over from Ireland for a few days.  I love how she styled the Bowie jumper with one of the gorgeous skirts I was telling you about.

Here we are with Jacynth, founder of The Bias Cut. The brand is about a lot more than clothes and accessories. Jacynth is keen to give older women a voice and you will find a blog and forum on the site, plus she has a great group on Facebook, Ageism is Never in Style. I love the way Jacynth uses "normal" women to showcase the clothes and not professional models.

To see all the clothes visit The Bias Cut; Facebook: @thebiascutcom; Instagram: @the_bias_cutcom;

There's a 10% discount until Friday 3 Nov on any of clothes chosen by me, Laurie and Hilda. Use code BLOGGERSPICKS* at the checkout.

    1. I love the dress but not sure when I would wear it ---- work is a bit casual and even when Mr M and I go out, it's seldom anywhere I'd wear a dress :-(

  3. Gail, I recogise those boots! wow, the make up is fab. I'm surprised she eyelinered all the way around but what an impact. Will you be using any of the make up tricks you learnt? I'm so glad you had a great day. These shots look like magazine pictures, xmas spread.

  4. Thank you for writing such a lovely article Gail. I can't decide which is my favourite look! That pink bowie sweater was made for you - and i just love how you styled it with your boots and belt. Can't wait to see how you will style it in the future. And your boots in every look add such a cool edge.

I'm also really pleased to hear Joyce gave you some makeup inspiration - she used false lashes on me too which I'd never worn before but I might be converted now! xx

  5. You look stunning, Gail, especially in that pink Bowie sweater/jumper. The makeup is wonderful on you. Also, I don't usually like it when models wear tracksuit bottoms but the green ones teamed with the velvet jacket? I make an exception!!! Altogether a great blog post x

    1. I haven't been altogether sure about side stripe trousers either Penny, but these are definitely a step up from tracksuit bottoms - the material was lovely and they were quite flattering to wear. Thanks for the compliments! Means a lot.

  10. Oh how stylish this all is. And you are a natural in front of pro's camera!
The first pic grabbed my attention. It instantly took me back to a green velvet trouser suit I fell in love with in Amsterdam in the early 70s (no stripe though). It was boutique-expensive and I saved hard to get it but it was surprisingly versatile and I wore it for years. It was good investment dressing, as are the pieces you are wearing here.
Thanks for sharing your exciting experience, loved the make-up too!
    Hugs, x.
