Holiday Outfits: Breaking the Rules

 Introducing #TuesdayTwirl

Is This Mutton in tropical patchwork dress from Apricot

Dear friends. I'm back with a style post and new link-up. It's been six months since the last Wow on Wednesday, and I've been missing it.  So today #TuesdayTwirl is born.

For style bloggers it's a chance to feature latest fashion and beauty posts, and for readers it's an opportunity to find more blogs from like-minded women.

Today I'm sharing a few of the outfits I'll be taking to Greece in a few weeks. I'm also doing 3 things that older women are often told, in clickbait articles, not to do.  Wearing bright colours;  wearing a shorter hemline, and baring my arms.  Who cares about rules?

First up is a new dress from Apricot, their Tropical Patchwork Mini Dress in S, £45.  I discovered last summer that I actually liked wearing dresses, as long as they weren't too long.  At 5'3, midi or maxi dresses often swamp me. This is the perfect length, but hard to find. There are lots of mini dresses on sale this year but most of them are too high above the knee for me.

It's a vibrant summer print and very good quality for the price.

Next up is something I've wanted for a long time:  a halter neck top.  I have an inverted triangle shape, which means my shoulders are wider than my hips.  Rather than "hide" them I'm showing them off.

The top is current, from Kettlewell, colour is Aqua.  It's double fronted with ruched sides.  I'm wearing it with their Darla denim skirt in light birch and lime belt. The necklace has both lime and aqua beads. Sandals, new, from Moshulu. I wrote a post last year about wearing halternecks, which, somewhat hilariously, didn't feature an actual halter neck.  I've now put that right.

Above: I'm in our newly refurbished kitchen. The kitchen makeover post if you missed it.

I probably won't need the wrap in Greece but this outfit, below, is a possible contender for the airport and plane.  I saw the combination of bright apricot and red on a Kettlewell Colour Club member and was keen to try it myself.  Again, wearing the Kettlewell Darla denim skirt in light birch.  Sandals are old. Bag from Etsy.

I've been looking for a cute bag in a warm red for some time.

Another dress I'll be taking is this blue linen number from Boden, which I bought last year but didn't get the chance to wear. It's in linen, which is usually a big No No for me, so if it creases horrifically in the suitcase it may not see the light of day! The bag is old.  My hair was shorter when I took it.  Out of interest, do you prefer it long or short?  Let me know in the comments.  I love it short in terms of it looking more stylish and trendy. But I wear it a bit longer because I feel it's more flattering on me (and in particular my neck!).
