Bodacious Brown

Outfits featuring winter's hottest colour Brown on over-60s blog Is This Mutton

Dear friends. I'm very pleased that the colour Brown is trending. It's the perfect alternative to black for warm toned types.

I've acquired a new suede skirt and pair of cords, plus a hat, in the coveted shade, my favourite neutral.

In the top picture I was so excited about finally finding a hat that suits me that I forgot to take the label off.

It's the Verity hat from Peak and Brim, a cloche style hat with fun embellishments.  I'm wearing it with the Hayden suede skirt from Kettlewell.  It's pricey at £159 (reduced to £127.20 but I don't know how long for), but I've never had a suede skirt so I treated myself.

My tights (Snag) and boots (Strive) are also brown as wearing one solid colour is the best way to elongate your legs.

I used to adore patterned tights, and look longingly at tights by Vikenplan. But as their pics show, the beautiful patterns look best with very short skirts or dresses and flat shoes.  The jumper is an old one in honey, the Ziggy, from Kettlewell.

The Hayden is just above the knee on me, at 5'3. A narrow belt (current, M&S) brings the outfit up to date.

I'm searching for a brown cardigan that I can wear with the short sleeved St Tropez jumper above. It needs to be shortish and fitted. Most cardis I see online are boxy and oversized.  The top is in a colour I adore, apricot, which is hard to find, even at Kettlewell.

When these new Jamie cord jeans arrived from Kettlewell I was a bit perplexed by the colour, as it's quite a pinkish brown. They call it cocoa. I was going to send them back but they're a good fit (size 10, leg 30) and I figured they'd go well with my warm pinks like flamingo, pink fizz and of course apricot, peach and tangerine. Above, wearing my preloved Roxy in coffee, Pippa top in pink geranium and swirls scarf from My Season Accessories. The jeans are currently reduced at £79.20

Finally a relaxed look with the Lighthouse Coral jersey. I featured this brand here. The quality is really excellent.

Here are a few more brown toned outfits from the archive.

  1. Haha, if you hadn't said a thing, I wouldn't have noticed the label. Fantastic skirt! You always remind me of Emma Peel in The Avengers with your skirt skirt looks. I love it! And thank you so much for the feature !!
