#Secondhand September

 Style Not Age challenge

Gail Hanlon from Is This Mutton channelling 60s gamine vibes in preloved corduroy pinafore dress with touches of leopard in her Emilio Cavallini tights and clutch bag.

Dear friends. It was my turn to set this month's prompt for the Style Not Age Challenge, and I chose #SecondhandSeptember.  This has become a popular hashtag and topic on Instagram, with many people not buying anything new.

I have a lot more success shopping in charity shops than I used to have. I had a few different items I could choose from.

Is This Mutton shows off two thrifted finds for #SecondhandSeptember, a cord pinafore dress and Kettlewell jumper worn with brogues and leopard tights

A pre-loved brown corduroy pinafore dress (Vinted) is making its debut today along with a pre-loved Ziggy jumper via the Kettlewell preloved site on Facebook. To bring the outfit up to date I added a touch of leopard with tights from Emilio Cavallini and a bag (old) from Next. Shoes (old) from Joe Brown's.

I have a search saved on eBay and Vinted for pinafore dresses as they're perfect for my retro 60s gamine vibe.

My tip for using both platforms is to be specific on what you're looking for, and if you don't see anything immediately in your search, save it and get notified for when new uploads happen.  I'd like more pinafore dresses but it's hard to find one in the colours I wear.

Let's see how the other intrepid style bloggers got on.

Anna from Anna's Island Style  is also wearing a dress from Vinted plus sandals from Primark and sunglasses from Radley London.

Hilda from Over the Hilda  ws invited by Oxfam to join them in Second Hand September. She found  this vintage cashmere wool blazer by Louis Copeland for 50 euro. Copeland makes men's bespoke suits and blazers. What a find!

Jacqui from Mummabstylish is wearing a black dress is Monsoon with her own sandals and jewellery.

Emma from Stylesplash is wearing a gorgeous coral ensemble: top from Maison Scotch (via a charity shop). The skirt was her mum's but it's too big for her now.  It's from JD Williams.  Emma's bangle is also from a charity shop.  Clarks wedge espadrilles (old) and bag from Dona Hortensia in Funchal.

I hope you enjoyed our thrifted finds. Did you take part in  #secondhandseptember, or do you regularly buy pre-loved? Do tell in the comments.

  1. Such a great challenge and put me out of my comfort zone as I don’t usually buy for charity shops, but this dress was a really find! Jacqui x
