A London Exhibition, Christmas Jumpers and a Haircut - and Link Up

Is This Mutton blogger Gail Hanlon in thre differenr festive jumpers for Christmas

Have you got your Christmas jumper yet, ladies? Above is a melange of my three most recent jumpers (sweaters).  The pic on top right dates from 2017 and the full post, featuring other blogger friends resplendent in reindeers, is here. The other two are from 208 (left) and last year (bottom right).

I favour pretty jumpers with sparkle rather than the jokey type of sweater.  Normally we wear our Christmas jumpers to work on one particular day, which for the last two years has been a meeting in the US, but I'm not sure if this will happen in 2020 on our Zoom "Christmas fun call."

I will be unveiling this year's Christmas jumper next week, if you can contain your excitement. Place your bets in the comments below on what color you think it will be.

Other News: Munch and Emin

The month-long second UK lock down finished last week, and I had a day off on Friday and went to see the Tracey Emin/Edvard Munch exhibition "The Loneliness of the Soul" at the Royal Academy.

Tracey Emin, is a British artist known for her paintings, sculptures and neon works which portray her emotions and vulnerability. She is 56 and suffering from cancer.  I was in floods of tears recently reading an article about her in the Times where she said she hoped to be here for Christmas. She seems to have had quite a sad life and lives for her art. Poster outside the Royal Academy in London advertising the Emin and Munch exhibition "The Loneliness of the Soul."

Edvard Munch 1863-1944 is the Norwegian artist best known for The Scream. Tracey was drawn to his  deep, often raw and emotional work some years ago.  She personally selected the Munch artworks featured in the exhibition, which include "Woman in a Hospital" below.  I imagine this bleak representation is how Tracey must have felt in her many trips to hospitals in the last year.
Tracey Emin's paintings and sculptures were almost too painful to look at.  Dating mostly from 2019, when she was diagnosed, I initially thought they were about her relationships but then I wondered if they were about her cancer.  This one, the first in the exhibition, is called "I was about to fall in love." The others have a similar style.

The exhibition was very sad. I emerged into the cold grey London day and was glad to see the usual lights and decorations.  It's also sad in its way, as if the old girl - London - has still gone to the effort of dressing up for us, but we haven't seen it.  It was fairly quiet around Piccadilly and Regent's Street, although apparently it was very crowded over the weekend, mostly with young people not wearing masks. The R rate in London is creeping up again and we may now go into tier 3, so thanks for that guys! Below, the welcoming entrance to Burlington Arcade.

Below, Fortnum and Mason's - the only store I went into.  It was both delightful and slightly scary to be among the excited hordes browsing the food section on the ground floor.  I didn't stay there for very long.

I rounded off the day by having my hair cut.  I took the plunge and went for shorter sides with the back shaped in and razored at the bottom. I was hoping I'd be able to wear earrings but unless they're big and dangly, they still can't be seen.I'll be having my colour done next week.

Last week's favourites

Nancy from Nancy's Fashion Style and her weekly post Throwback Tuesday #23.  Nancy shared some of her recent happenings including friends coming round and a disastrous Sunday where everything went wrong.

Tatiana from My Fabulous Forties and her post, "Spontaneous Purchase."  How many of us have made one of those? Tatiana did a fabulous job styling her long paprika sweater and she's now thinking she will keep it in her closet.
I enjoyed seeing Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge in all her paisley garments -  "Reminder: the Good Buy/Good Bye Book - Paisley".  I have one paisley item, a Zara blouse, but I'm fascinated by this mysterious print, also known as "Persian Pickles" in some countries. Loving this poncho!

  1. Ooh Munch!! That is fabulous. Tracy s work sounds heartbreaking but also beautiful. I think it's a talent when you are able to put your emotions into something creative. But Munch! I love his work. We hope to go to aBob Ross exhibition in February and of course the stones one in Groningen! Love your haircut too! And thanks for the feature, that makes me so happy!
