& #TuesdayTwirl
Dear friends. Yellow - in particular butter yellow - has been the biggest hit of the summer, along with barrel jeans.
I've always loved yellow: such a cheerful, vibrant colour, so today I'm sharing some different ideas for yellow.
Yellow is usually a warm colour, and best for those analysed Spring or Autumn. The rule is "custard for Spring, mustard for Autumn."
But there are a couple of cooler yellows. Kettlewell's Pastel Yellow typifies what the shops are calling butter yellow. It's a very pale shade, ideal for those who are Summer. Acid Yellow, on the other hand, is the only yellow coded for those coded Winter.
Know Your Yellows
Butter comes in several different shades. You can see the difference here between Kettlewell's Pastel Yellow (back), Chloe jacket in Lemonade, and under that, two-way top in my personal favourite, canary yellow. Canary is reminiscent of lemon meringue pie. It's warm and bright.
So first, the "trendy" look. Cream barrel jeans (M&S) with Kettlewell 2-way top in canary yellow and animal print belt. Bag, current, from Pom London.
Yellow pairs well with bright green. Wearing a short sleeved sweater in lemonade (old) with yellow skirt (thrifted) and the latest skinny way to wear a scarf (Scarf Giraffe). A jumper with a deep welt at the bottom is great for hiding a tummy, while showing the waist.
Next is a simple casual look with shorts (old, M&S), brown sandals, current (Dune) and yellow and blue blossoms necklace, current (My Season Jewellery). I'm wearing the pale Pastel Yellow top. I wear quite a punchy lipstick, otherwise it makes me look washed out.
Finally, my pink spotted canary yellow blouse (Kettlewell, old) which I like to tie at the waist. I've elongated my legs with wedge sandals and a midi length denim skirt, current (Kettlewell).
Yellow will still be around in winter, although the shades will be more autumnal. I've already seen some lovely canary yellow faux fur coats, new in, at Jayley.
I've bought a yellow shirt for autumn/winter. I find you have to be quick if you spot any of the spring colours (and indeed purple) in the autumn/winter drops. They disappear out of the door. You'd think that would tell the retailers something....?
