Stay Dry in Style

Is This Mutton on the joys of staying dry in a purple raincoat

Dear friends. I bought this gorgeous purple trench a few weeks ago and still haven't had chance to wear it.  We had a very dry summer and autumn is continuing in the same vein.

But at least I have it for when rain inevitably strikes.

I spotted the trench coat at Hobbs and knew I must act quickly. What I've learnt about purple is that when retailers have any of the bright true purple shade, it flies out of the door.  I don't understand why they don't stock more of it.

Most trench coats are, as you know, a stone or beige colour, navy or black.  Colours which tone with everything, but so dull in my humble opinion.

My trench is called the Skylar Shower Resistant Trench. It's currently reduced to £175.20.  Spendy, yes, but a trench is timeless and I look at it as an investment buy. It will give me years of wear. It comes in a petite version too, which is what I chose.  I also took a look at Rain Sisters, which has a dazzling array of raincoats in different styles and colours.

Regular readers will know I'm quite partial to purple. However, when I had my "wow colours" analysed last summer, it turned out that the spring purples are not wows for me.  Undeterred, I still wear it - mostly the most saturated brightest purple - but make sure I wear it with a flattering colour.

In this case I'm wearing a blouse in a warm pink from Kettlewell, along with coral bag from Pom Pom London (current) and my fabulous sparkly dance shoes  (Supadance, re-soled for outdoor use).

It's funny but whenever I wear purple from head to toe, I get stopped several times in the street. It doesn't happen with any other colour. Purple is one of the rarest colours, you don't see it around too much. That's one of the reasons I like it.

I've bought a toning umbrella (Monet water lilies from Signare at Amazon). I'd prefer a hood but this trench doesn't have one. I'll be on the look out for a suitable rain hat. Not one of those plastic RainMates though!  (Remember them?).

How do you like to stay dry in the rain? Do tell in the comments.
