Dear friends. Today I'm sharing what I'm reading, new arrivals on the Kindle, and what I'll be reviewing shortly.
I'll start first with four new arrivals. I'm currently reading Eight by Paul Gascoigne and Life Plan by Amanda Prowse.
Eight is a memoir, claiming to reveal the "real Gazza" for the first time. Gascoigne is an iconic figure in the UK: a brilliant footballer but troubled.
I was offered Life as Planned by Amanda Prowse as an advance digital copy but sadly not in Kindle format. I loathe reading books on my tablet as it's a larger one I bought for watching videos. The same thing happened recently with an Andy Maslen book on NetGalley. The offending publisher is Amazon, which is surprising when you consider how they dominate the book market with Kindle.
As a Prowse fan, I bought it. Amanda Prowse is often dismissed as "chick lit" but I find her books are full of relatable characters and emotional intelligence.
The Knapdale Murders by Daniel Sellers is my second crime thriller so far this year. It's set in the Scottish Highlands. I love books featuring Scotland.
The fourth new arrival, The Boleyn Secret by Alison Weir, is a novel imagining the life of Kate Carey, daughter of Mary Carey (Boleyn) - Anne Boleyn's sister. She spent a lot of time at court, was Queen Elizabeth's most treasured relation, and had 16 children. She and her husband fled to Europe to escape Queen Mary's purge of heretics. I read the book as soon as arrived. Longer review coming up on 20 February.
Upcoming Standalone Reviews
The Baby Farm Murderer by Stephen Jakobi, Non-Fiction / True Crime, 6 February
The Wives of Henry VIII by Jessica Carey-Bunning, History, Non-Fiction, 30 January
My monthly post of review summaries features some absolute corkers. It'll be published on the third Friday of February, 20th.
