A Week of Outfits

 And #TuesdayTwirl
Is This Mutton's two favourite outfits from a week of dressing properly each day and not in athleisure.

Dear friends. I set myself a challenge to wear a proper outfit each day for a week.

Most days I wear athleisure all day.  It's not the trendy sort, either.

But as I miss my outfit round-ups of yore, when I was working, I decided to smarten up my act to wear more of my clothes. I'm showing you what I wore each day last week.

What to expect:  an ordinary 65 year old woman wearing colourful outfits and accessories to hopefully give you a bit of inspiration.

Saturday

What's this strange yellow ball in the sky? The first sunny day for at least 2 weeks. I'm unusually wearing a skirt and tights for today's walk in Epping Forest.  There's a lot of mud and I'm fed up with having to wash jeans or hiking trousers after each outing.

Sunday

Since buying my investment suede skirt from Kettlewell, I've been making sure I wear it quite often. Today we went out for a pub lunch.  I wore the skirt with a ribbed shirt in Sundae (Kettlewell) and brown velvet trim cardigan from Jigsaw. Boots by Strive.

Monday

On Monday I met a friend in London to see the George Seurat exhibition at the Courtauld Gallery, followed by a meander to Temple Church and lunch at a historic pub.

The weather forecast dictated what I wore.  Showers were likely, so I knew I'd have to wear a raincoat. I chose my aqua trench  (old, Asos) and "sensible" teal brogues  (Embassy London) as they're comfortable for walking, and waterproof. Also wearing patch pocket jeans from M&S and two tops from Kettlewell:  silky roll neck in light aqua and essential V, old, in true teal.

Tuesday

Wednesday

Very cold today. Did an indoor workout and only went out briefly to get berries and bread. Wearing a simple cosy outfit, Celtic chinos in coral and sweatshirt from Lighthouse (now reduced in price). No makeup.

Thursday

I decided to try a bit harder after yesterday's effort. Pink and green are a lovely combination which was driven by my choice of necklace (from My Season). Another look for my mint jeans from Perfect Jeans. Shirt and sleeveless cardigan from Kettlewell.

The lipstick I'm wearing is a pH balance lipstick tint from Tom Ford. The bullet has no colour except flecks of gold. When you apply it, it changes to a colour of pink that depends on your pH. A high pH results in a deeper shade. I was a bit disappointed with the shade. Younger women seem to get a brighter pink.

Friday

Today is the anniversary of the launch of the Kettlewell Colour Club on Facebook.  I don't post outfits very often now but I made lots of lovely friends thanks to the club, and we regularly meet up.

Kettlewell invited us to post a favourite outfit. I love yellow with pink, and I always love wearing the faux suede Roxy jacket in Confetti. It's a spring/summer outfit, so just for the photo opp! A good opportunity to wear my new Embassy London pink shoes for the first time.

Mr M doesn't roll his eyes at pink and yellow.......because they're pastels, I guess?

Lipstick is Max Factor's English Rose.

It's the details that help make this outfit special to me. The range, from Annele,  was a Christmas present from Mr M. Bag from Pom Pom London. Shoes from Embassy London.

Saturday Feb 20

I'm back in teal and aqua but with different shoes and this time a teal dress, seen here. I wore this to a lovely event, Wanstead Vintage. A woman stopped me in the street to say my colours made her happy!

One of the items I bought was the brooch on my trench.

So that's my week of outfits. I have to say I enjoyed the process of choosing a different outfit each day. Must do it again!

Do you make the effort every day to dress "properly" or is athleisure (or something else?) your thing? Do tell in the comments.

Quick One: My Season Jewellery and Accessories

I was sad to hear that Karen is closing her business, which provides scarves, bags and jewellery in seasonal colours for those who have been colour analysed.

I have all the scarves plus several of the necklaces.  Here I am in some of them. I'm wearing the Spring variant each time.

The scarves are beautiful, and very competitively priced for silk.  What I love about the scarves is that a) you can use them when you go shopping instead of colour swatches;  and b) each scarf contains several different colours from your season, so depending on how you tie them, you can match them to countless outfits.

If you visit My Season by Friday (27 Feb) everything is reduced. The store will then close.
