Outfits for Christmas and Link Up

Over 50s blogger Gail Hanlon in lemon feather-trimmed jumper from Uterque and cream trousers

Christmas is a brutal time for women. All the shopping - for food and presents, the wrapping, the sending of cards, the visiting of relatives, the cooking - mostly falls on our shoulders.  I escape relatively lightly in that I don't have a big family, and the main effort for me is preparing lunch on six for Boxing Day, which is of course the easiest day.
But I've had a frantic few weeks with two trips to the US in four weeks, a quick schlep down to Plymouth  (250 miles) to take the presents to my mum and brother's family, and the hassle of getting dates and paperwork arranged for the return of my car and purchase of a new one which is suddenly available after weeks of uncertainty.

I was so behind with the Christmas stuff that I only sent my cards yesterday (not many - it's only the older generation that seems to still want them) and finalised my online shopping order on Sunday. I've now done most of the wrapping and I skimped on the decorations by just using the pop up tree, which is as its name suggests.

I've finally got round to thinking about outfits.  I like to be a bit dressy over Christmas. It seems the perfect time for sequins and glamour.

The lemon jumper with feather sleeves, from Uterque,  is delicious isn't it? I'd wear it to drinks with family and friends. I enjoy wearing white or cream in winter because it seems a bit unexpected.
Then there is my reversible sequin skirt.  Now when I first bought this, from Marks & Spencer, I intended to send it back.  The sequins are gold on one side and black on the other, and you can change the colour by brushing your hand over the skirt like this:

How a sequin skirt can change colour: one side of the sequins is black and the other gold. As worn by over 50s blogger Is This Mutton.com

I thought it looked a bit odd because it's virtually impossible to get all the sequins lying in the same direction. But then I thought - wait, this actually looks quite interesting.  So my first look, with the gold side, features a brown velvet top.

Then I brushed the sequins the other way and added a black sequin top and belt. This looks better I thought if some of the sequins are still gold.

Now it's time to get our #WowOnWednesday.  Last week's readers' favourite was blog Stylish at Sixty where Jilly reported on her Christmas break in Birmingham, including the Christmas Market.  There's no #WowOnWednesday next week but it will be back on 2 January.
