Feet Killing You? There's a Stylish Solution

& WowOnWednesday

Gail Hanlon from Is This Mutton putting Strive orthotic footwear to the test
Dear friends. One of the mysteries of ageing is: why do our feet always hurt?

But hurt they do, because I, and most of my friends, have stopped wearing high heels with regret, and now embrace the trend for trainers and flat shoes.  But even they can make our feet ache.

One of the reasons for sore feet is that our muscles and tendons lose elasticity, which can contribute to foot pain.  Plus high heels constrict the foot and place a lot of stress and weight on one part of the foot–usually our toes.

But there is a way of being comfortable in footwear all day long, while looking stylish.  The solution is footwear designed as nature intended. For Strive, a company which has been making hand crafted custom orthotics since the 1980s, this means not using excessive cushioning but supporting the foot in the position it's designed to be held in.

I've been putting a pair of Strive Sandringham boots through their paces, and they're supremely comfortable and look very expensive.

Strive's orthotics are a bit different from the usual flat footbed. Their podiatrist-designed "Biomechanical Footbed Technology" re-designs a classic flat footbed to the natural contours and shape of the feet.

The company, based in Stone, Staffordshire, uses premium natural leather sourced from around the globe, ensuring their footwear is soft to touch, breathable and durable.

I was impressed with the quality and sheen of the leather, and nice design touches like two zips. I wore them for a whole day, with lots of walking, on a trip to the newly revamped Battersea Power Station, and I didn't have any of the problems you often get with a) new boots, and b) aching feet after a few hours.

It's not surprising to see that the Strive range is endorsed by podiatrists.  Their sandals have the APMA Seal of Acceptance, awarded to products that have been found beneficial to foot health. Each Strive sandal has been reviewed by APMA podiatrists to ensure its safety and overall quality.

Is This Mutton addresses the issue of ageing giving us foot pain, and how Strive orthotic footwear can relieve the problem while still looking stylish

Find sandals, boots, shoes (including the latest trend of loafers) and slippers on the Strive website. You can also visit their Facebook page.

Ankle boots look good with both trousers/jeans and skirts and dresses. They can add a bit of edge to a dressy skirt. Keeping your tights the same colour makes legs look longer. Outfit details:  peach jumper, Asos (current), camel ruched skirt, Kettlewell, tights Snag, Sandringham boots from Strive (also available in 3 other colours).

Disclosure: I was gifted with a pair of Strive ankle boots. My post is based on my experience of wearing them, and copy approval was not sought.

How are your feet these days? Do you still wear high heels or are they a thing of the past? Do let us know in the comments.

Woman & Home Christmas Live

We all need a bit of cheer right now - particularly in the UK - and this sounds like a wonderful day out: the Woman & Home Christmas Live event in London at County Hall on November 19.

There are several different stages,  the main stage plus stages featuring beauty and food and drink. Speakers include Lisa Snowdon (beauty stage), Susannah Constantine and author Ruth Jones.

There'll be lessons in tablescaping from The White Company, how to make cocktails and how to create fantastic food show stoppers. And of course there will be a Christmas Market, so that you can get ahead with your present buying.

There's a discount of 20% off the ticket price for Is This Mutton readers.  Use discount code OFFER at the checkout, which you'll find here

I'll be there for the afternoon session, so it would be great to meet up for a festive glass!

  2. I love hearing about different companies. Especially when they can make shoes that are truly comfortable. Loved reading about this. I think it’s important to be comfortable without sacrificing style in the process. These boots are absolutely gorgeous and I just love the way they look on. Hope your having a lovely week.
