 And Wow on Wednesday

Dear friends. I'm wearing a colour today that I've always found depressing.  Navy blue. I fell in love with the nautical dress with retro vibes, and decided to overlook the colour. I've always had a bit of a thing for nautical / sailor looks. 

It's a brighter navy than the usual shade, so fine for someone  analysed Spring, as I am. The dress came from Voodoo Vixen, who recreate retro looks.  The shoes are Xanthi Heeled Mary Janes from Jones Bootmakers.  They have a heel but it's a low block heel and easy to walk in. I had a pair of white opaque tights ready for a full 60s look but as the sun was out at the weekend decided I wouldn't need them.

If I had a wedding to go to this year, I'd choose this dress. Very little chance of anyone else wearing it, and a different look to all the long print frocks that are in the shops. 

I added a dash of flamingo pink with my short tie wrap (Kettlewell) - perfect for chillier days.

Buying new from a retailer like Voodoo Vixen is an easy and reliable way to acquire period pieces. The garments are in today's sizing and are brand new.  I've found that with genuine 1960s vintage, you're generally going to have a few imperfections through the age of the garment. That isn't a show stopper for me as you expect clothes that are 40+ years old to have signs of wear. 

I've seen some nice dresses on Etsy - and bought one - but as most sellers don't allow returns, you have to study the measurements for each item very carefully.  In the 60s, a size 10 was a lot smaller than today's 10. 

One thing I'm struggling with is jewellery for my retro looks.  There isn't much in the way of second hand fashion jewellery from the 60s.  What there is tends to be cheap looking plastic necklaces, huge daisy earrings and love beads. 

I also lack a good 60s top handle bag. White patent would be nice!
