White bouclé jacket and polka dots

Image showing a woman in a white boucle jacket with a polka dot above the knee skirt and pearl necklaces
I was idly browsing new arrivals to embellish my "latest fashion picks" Pinterest board, when this delightful white bouclé jacket from River Island stopped me in my tracks. I love a bouclé jacket because they look so elegant and Chanel-like when worn with pearls and a skirt, but they also go brilliantly with jeans.

A Brief History of the Brassiere

Image showing a young woman wearing lace underwear on a sumptuous bed.
Our relationship with the brassiere is one of love / hate. Many women say it's the first thing they take off when they get home.

But like them or loathe them, our figures would be considerably worse without the support, particularly as we get older.

Sequins for daytime

Image showing over 45s fashion blogger Gail Hanlon wearing sequins as daytime attire

Image showing over 45s blogger Gail Hanlon wearing sequins for the daytime. A green sequin top is worn with a green and black skirt, wide black belt and black boots.
I spotted this pretty dark green sequinned top in the sale when I was staying with my Mum in Plymouth. I'd nipped into the Co-Op for a paper, and came out with the top and a parka (as you do). It crossed my mind that the top would be great for work attire. Yes! Not just for evenings.

I've styled it with a skirt from TU at Sainsbury's (another bargain) and over-the-knee boots. The jacket is one of my favourites and I've had it for years, It's from Max Mara and I firmly believe you should invest in the occasional jacket, coat or bag that will stand the test of time.
I'm also wearing my "Gok Wan" belt, which is great for acting as punctuation in an outfit, particularly when you have a skirt with no defined waist band, and a top that looks strange if it's not tucked in. The hoop earrings are from Sainsbury's and the pearl pin (on the jacket) was from Marks and Spencer, but sold out now.

What do you think of sequins for daytime? A big yay or nay?

Up close with the Bloodstone or Heliotrope

Image showing a bloodstone, a gemstone which is green jasper with inclusions of red hermatite, said to be the tears of Christ. The stone is also known as heliotrope.

When I started researching this post on the alternative birthstone for March, I wasn't very excited. The bloodstone (also known as heliotrope) seemed initially to be more about healing than jewellery. The few examples of bloodstone jewellery I saw were, frankly, hideous. But then I widened my search to "heliotrope" and found a pretty stone that sadly seems to have been forgotten.

Sentence a Day, March 2018

Very pleased to be taking part for the first time in Sentence a Day, a monthly series where a number of bloggers share a review of our month written in one sentence a day. I made a few rookie errors, among them not taking enough photos! I promise to make it a bit more visual next month. Oh, and you'll have to humour me with the British obsession about the weather.
