What I Would Wear in the FROW: Style Not Age Challenge

A chic dress to help you feel confident in any situation. Black dress with white collar and cuffs worn with polka dot kitten heels
Happy bank holiday - the last before Christmas (eek!).  The Style Not Age collective is having some fun today with the challenge I set, "What I would wear in the FROW,"  the FROW being the front row of the fashion shows which are currently happening, mostly virtually, around Europe.

The thought of actually being invited to sit in the FROW is fairly terrifying.  You could either copy the fashion editors in wearing designer spoils which are not even in the stores yet, or vintage, which at least stops the fashion editors from sneering at a dress from last year.

Or you could adopt the approach of the young influencers who parade outside the shows, hoping to be snapped bv the paparazzi.  They like to show off high street clothes, styled outlandishly.

I took the Anna Wintour approach.  She has a signature look for the FROW, a dress (usually from Prada), sunglasses from Chanel, necklace, and usually the same style of shoes in nude.

My "safe refuge" is a chic black dress, preferably with a white collar to add a gamine quality. These dresses are flattering and timeless. Mine came from The Pretty Dress Company. It looks like it's no longer available, but if I was choosing now I would go for the Kennedy Roll collar dress which is reduced. My advice is to choose the next size up, not your usual size.

Lady like shoes were called for: I don't think this style of dress works with boots, unless long, or sandals, and definitely not trainers.  I'm wearing old polka dot kitten heels from Miss Selfridge.  I'm parading my only designer bag, from Mulberry, which I gave myself as a treat before lockdown and it hasn't seen the light of day.

Here I am pretending to be in the FROW!
For my imaginary visit to the FROW at the top fashion shows I am wearing a simple but sophisticated black dress with ivory collar and kitten heels with a Mulberry bag
Let's see what my cohorts have chosen. It's fascinating to see that we all went for black and white in different guises.
Hilda from Over the Hilda is looking effortlessly cool in rock star chic with her Spanx suit, Zara shirt and favourite hat.
Anna from Anna's Island Style chose black and white in the shape of a Zara lace blouse, Topshop gingham dungarees and Ninewest shoes, topped off with her Furla Candy bag in pink. She looks very funky and would quickly put Anna Wintour in the shade if the two Annas sat together in the FROW!
Jacqui from Mummabstylish has pulled off a look which she says took her out of her comfort zone:  black wide legs with trainers, white shirt left hanging 'a la Trinny';  fancy jacket, two necklaces, bangles and a shiny rust metallic clutch bag. I think it suits her very well.

Emm from Stylesplash is mixing animal print with black leather and bright pink nails, looking very edgy. She's wearing a blouse from TKMaxx, shoes from New Look, clutch from Asos and faux leather culottes from River Island. Everything is old except the culottes which she bought a few months ago in the sales.

I'm sure you'll agree we're all showcasing our own style in the FROW as well as (unexpectedly) givig you a whole post on how to do cool things with black and white! There are more photos on each of the girls' blogs.

What would YOU wear in the FROW?  Do share in the comments.
