Little Black Dress: Style Not Age Challenge

The little black dress is a wardrobe staple. See how five style bloggers over the age of 45 styled theirs

Dear friends. Hope you all had a splendid holiday weekend. Welcome to the December Style Not Age Challenge, where Jacqui, Anna, Hilda, Emma and I create an outfit based on a prompt from one of the team.

This time it's the turn of Jacqui, who chose Little Black Dress - a popular choice for December for Christmas and New Year's Eve parties.

I have a black dress with a cream collar, but I've worn it here fairly recently, and as it's a difficult dress to style differently I decided to show another one.

I went for a black dress with a polka dot print - as did Hilda, coincidentally. Mine came from Hobbs.  Necklace from My Season Jewellery (winter) and boots, very old, from a shopping trip to Cardiff around 15 years ago.

The dress has a flattering gathered waist which hides any post-Christmas damage, and ruching on the sleeves.

Ruching on the waist and sleeves makes this Hobbs dress figure flattering. Gail Hanlon from Is This Mutton adds long boots and a winter seasonal necklace that echoes the colours of the polka dots

Now let's see how the other girls got on.

Jacqui from Mummabstylish is wearing the most gorgeous dress - it has so much interest with the cut-outs, rivets and lace.  Jacqui snapped it up in the Debenhams sale a couple of years ago. It's from Julien Macdonald.

Hilda from Over the Hilda is wearing an old favourite, a pretty, floaty dress with polka dots from Biba label at House of Fraser.  She "borrowed" the reversible jacket from her daughter, who'll be lucky to ever see it again! The shoes are from Clarks and also old, but very comfortable despite the high heels.

Anna from Anna's Island Style has pulled out the stops with this gorgeous creation. Look at the wonderful frou-frou hem! The dress is is a vintage number by Italian designer Gina Bacconi, yet another brilliant charity shop find from many moons ago. The boots are old, from River Island, tights, belt, rings and necklace all charity shopped too.

Emma from Stylesplash is the epitome of elegance in her wardrobe-shopped Bastyan dress and shoes from Quiz.

I hope you enjoyed our different spins on a little black dress.  You can see more pics at each blogger's site.

I'm back on Wednesday with the last #WowOnWednesday link-up for 2021.  Hope to see you then.
