Summer Buys

 And #TuesdayTwirl

Gail Hanlon from Is This Mutton in Terracotta Orange Darla jacket from Kettlewell and white jeans

Dear friends.  I'm sharing a couple of new season buys today. I didn't need very much for summer and I haven't seen very much that grabs me. That's one of the drawbacks with having had colour analysis. You search for particular colours and sometimes they're just not in the shops.

My new orange jacket is from Kettlewell,  who specialise in colours for those who have been seasonally or tonally analysed.

It's the Darla jacket in cotton twill. I have a Darla skirt from last year in cream (below) and more colours are available this year.

Ironically I used to avoid orange. I went through a brief period when I thought I was cool toned and avoided orange at all costs. I love it now. In the top pic I'm wearing it with a KW stripey top (currently on sale in their outlet), trainers from Gola at Oliver Bonas and and M&S Sienna Super Soft jeans.

In the other pic I'm wearing the orange jacket with the KW ribbed shirt in Caribbean Jade and Neon Orange belt.

I sent for a few tops from Next but found that they all came up rather large (I advise sizing down) and unfortunately a bit low cut. I decided to keep just one from Love and Roses in association with the RHS. It has gold detail that means it will look good with a light tan on holiday.

I've also bought 2 kaftans for our Greek holiday. I wear these at breakfast and down to the beach. They last for years. The cream one is from M&S, £40.  (unbelievably, this is an XS. It's absolutely huge).

This aqua kaftan is from Aspiga.

I snapped up a coral swimsuit at Boden. The sandals are also new, from Asos.

I've ordered a new pair of cream jeans from M&S to take on our next cycling holiday in Scotland in a few days' time. One of the hotels is 5 star so I figured cream jeans would be a bit more dressy than blue ones. I've ordered 3 pairs in different cuts and will show you the "winner" next time, if there is a winner! You know how difficult it is to buy good jeans, although I find M&S the best for choice.

I also sent for a Sosander dress in my Next haul.  I spotted it because it's a lovely yellow.  I knew the style would be a bit borderline for me.  And it was.  It's just a bit too frilly for me. I ordered a 10 and it was true to size.

So that's it in terms of my summer buys.  I'm on the lookout for a dress, but as it needs to be plain (or polka dotted), knee length, not low cut or scoop necked, and free of ruffles and puff sleeves, as well as not being in linen or various other fabrics that I dislike. A sailor style or Peter Pan collar would be the icing on the cake. Quite the challenge! If you see one, drop me a line.

What have you bought for the holiday season? Do tell in the comments.

  1. Love those sandals! I never wear orange because we just had King's Day, and then everybody wears orange. Love the top with the golden details, I'm a sucker for gold.
