Dear friends. It's survey time! This year we're asking about what's in your wardrobe and we want to see a few numbers. How many wardrobes? How many pairs of shoes?  But it's not all frivolous. We're also keen to see how you're buying fashion and how you're disposing of it. Have brands improved their representation of older women in ads and on websites?

Pretty in Pink: Style Not Age Challenge

Pretty in Pink is this month's Style Not Age Challenge, set by Anna from Anna's Island Style. This was music to my ears because I love pink and have quite a lot of it. It's a very flattering colour on all women, if you find the right shades. 

Jackets for July: Style Not Age Challenge

 

Welcome to the latest Style Not Age Challenge, set this month by Jacqui of Mummabstylish. Jacqui chose "Jackets for July." After the recent heatwave you may be wondering if jackets are needed in July, but temperatures are often low in the early morning and fall in the evening, so you often do need a light jacket or cardigan.

Bright Pink and Khaki - Plus Link-Up

 

I can't tell you how long I've been looking for a pair of khaki cargo pants.  Khaki is such a great neutral and it goes wonderfully well with bright colors like red, pink and orange. 

Find Your Perfect Yellow - and Link-Up

 

Of all the colours, yellow is the most divisive.  Many women say they love it - and it's hard to resist with its gorgeousness freshness and vivacity - but it doesn't suit them.

I've news for you: there's a shade of yellow for nearly all of us, with the exception of those who have summer colouring. 

Spring Sweaters: Style Not Age Challenge

 

It's the last Monday of the month so time for the latest Style Not Age Challenge. This time it was chosen by Anna from Anna's Island Style, and she went for Spring Sweaters.

I've cheated a little in that my sweater is a cardigan. I find cardigans very useful at this time of year.  You can of course wear them unbuttoned, or draped over the shoulders,  and they're great for extra warmth when the weather is a bit chilly. My cardigan is thicker than the usual spring sweater, but with a cold easterly wind this week, the warmth is much needed.

First Cut Since Lockdown

 

What a difference a new haircut and colour makes.  On Monday I had a day off work to spend a pleasurable four hours catching up with Jodie. After a full head of highlights and permanent base was applied, followed by a pale pink glaze, my hair was cut quite a bit shorter. 

Lime Green and a Dash of Florals - and Link-Up

 

When the bag of long-lost treasures came down from the attic recently, one of the finds was this lime green jumper, an impulse buy a few years ago in Sainsbury's.

It was perfect to team with a new scarf I bought from Culture Vulture.  I was attracted by both the bright and colourful Susulu Liberty print, which will work well with pink too, and the magnetic fastening. 

I didn't bother with scarves until recently because I found them impossible to style, and life is too short for YouTube tutorials. But scarves like this, or the Rew scarves with a button fastening, or the Kettlewell infinity scarves, well, they're all ideal for a scarf-phobic.

Can I Wear a Tiered Skirt Over 50? And Link Up

 

Tiered skirts all the rage for spring and summer, a progression from the ruffles of last year.  I am not big on either ruffles or tiers.  I usually go for clean, straight or asymmetric silhouettes.  Tiers remind me of wedding cakes. I wasn't looking for a tiered skirt but in fact a khaki skirt when I stumbled across this beaut, which combines both.

Dark khaki is great as a neutral with bright pink, red and orange.  I'm wearing it with a fuchsia pink top from Kettlewell, metallic pink boots and a three-string necklace dating from the 60s, from Etsy. I love Etsy and often buy jewellery  and secondhand clothes there.  It's lovely to buy directly from women who make it or have a pre-loved business.

The skirt, from Oasis at Asos is quite long - initially I thought too long, but it's balanced out by the heeled boots. It has an elasticated waist which is fabulous in these Covid times. The tiering is there but the colour and fabric ma

The bright pink is a great colour for not looking invisible over a kes subtle, so there's no wedding cake effect going on. The skirt is in the sale at £22. certain age!

Perfect Everyday Skirt

I wrote recently that I couldn't imagine wearing a knee-length skirt again, having fallen for midi length. Well, here I am in a flippy knee-length skirt, and it's new. I picked it up along with the food shopping at Sainsbury's.

The reason I snapped it up, at £12, was that it's a delightfully easy skirt to wear with its elasticated waist.  Very comfortable to sit in while chained to the desk. It came with a belt which I took off.  The blend of colours goes well with a lot of shades.

I'm wearing it with an acid yellow top from Kettlewell and transparent bag. The sandals are years old.

The fashion stores in the UK reopen on June 15. I won't be in a hurry to go into London to snap up the many bargains that will be on offer.  I've been buying pieces online throughout the lock down, so I don't really need anything now.  It won't be long before we see the first drops for autumn/winter. What a sobering thought that is!
